Brooklyn, a small riverside settlement, is known as the gateway to the Hawkesbury River, being just a 4km drive from the M1 Freeway  exit and also the location of Hawkesbury River Train Station. Travel by train is just a one hour trip from Sydney Central Station to Brooklyn. Generally travel by road is also approx one hour, but allow more time in peak periods

Watering Holes
Downtown Brooklyn – approx 4km along Brooklyn Rd from Pacific Highway, has a great range of spots to have a delicious bite to eat and something to quench your thirst. Locally run establishments  such as Homers, King Tides & Lifeboat Seafood come highly recommended. The legendary Anglers Rest Hotel also serves light snacks & delicious pub style meals 

Boating
Brooklyn is also a hub for self drive houseboat hire , BBQ boats and smaller easy to drive hire boats . For those with boating exerience & a boat licence there are boats with 30hp+ for exploring further afield along the waterway

The Riveboat Postman
Brooklyn is the launching point for Australia’s last riverboat mail and parcel delivery service along the Hawkesbury River, a reminder of the days when the river was the means of connecting the farming communities inland to the settlement at Sydney which relied upon their supplies. It is possible to hitch a ride by contacting the office  on 0400 600 111. Departing Monday to Friday at 10 am. (returning at 1.30 p.m.).  There is also ‘fish n chip’ cruise  on Sundays. The Hawkesbury River train station is just a  minutes  walk away

Dangar Island Ferry Service
At Brooklyn’s north-eastern tip, is Dangar Island, which has a ferry service, a cafe and a bowling club, both offering wonderful locally made meals & taste treats. The Dangar Ferry Service  departs from Brooklyn Public Wharf at regular intervals on a daily basis

Hawkesbury River Marina
Drive to the end of Brooklyn Rd and turn to the left at the pub, into Dangar Rd by the Hawkesbury River train station. Turn right along avenue of native Cabbage Palms to the Hawkesbury River Marina where there are holiday apartments, a boardwalk cafe, jet ski adventures, a bottle shop/ general store,  a laundromat and a hire boat outlet

McKell Park
Beyond the marina is  McKell Park with  picnic, barbecue and playground facilities as well an enclosed swimming area along the waters edge.  There are also picnic, barbecue and playground facilities on the top level plateau.

Great North Walk
